[downtime] CS Network Downtime, Monday, October 30, 2017,

Date: Monday, October 30, 2017 (07:00-09:00)

Who is affected:
All users of the CS Department network or network services (including such
things as e-mail, web servers, etc.)

What is happening:
During this window, the CS Department network border firewall will be
upgraded. During the upgrade, all network services entering or leaving the
department\’s internal network will be unavailable. This disruption will
affect normal internet service for systems on the CS network, as well as
connections to CS network services from outside the CS network.

Why is it happening:
This upgrade will bring our border firewall up-to-date with the latest
vendor-released features and bug fixes. It will correct a few open
vulnerabilities, as well as enable a smoother implementation of IPv6 in the
internal department network.

We will post updates to the status page: http://www.csstaff.org
as necessary.

If this downtime will cause you undue hardship, please contact
csstaff@cs.princeton.edu immediately, so we can discuss options to reduce
any negative impact. Your patience is appreciated.

Sincerely,
CS Staff

Who is affected:
All users of the CS department computing using soak.cs.princeton.edu

What is happening:
soak.cs.princeton.edu will be shutdown for replacement of a defective DIMM.

pre-failure state and likely to fail soon. So as to avoid an unplanned
failure that may threaten the stability of the host, we are scheduling this
outage to replace the failing DIMM preemptively.

We will post updates to the status page: http://www.csstaff.org
as necessary.
